20 Genius Roommate Pranks From People I’m Very Glad I Don’t Live With

Having a roommate is a double-edge sword. On the one hand, you can end up becoming inseparable, and remain best friends for life. On the other, you could end up living with someone who leaves the milk out (a pet peeve of mine).

It’s one thing if your roommate does things that annoy you, but some of them go out of their way to scare the bejeezus out of you on an almost daily basis.

Here’s a bunch of pranksters that should definitely come with a warning when looking for a place on Craigslist.

1. Fridge hugger

This is one of those pranks that becomes blindingly obvious after a second or two, but those milliseconds leading up to it are the scariest of your life. Apparently, this alien has a penchant for olive oil spread.

2. Cello there!

I can just hear the cello theme from Jaws playing as this poor unfortunate flatmate approached the bathroom. I’m glad they saw the funny side… in retrospect.

3. Announcing your arrival

All I can say about this prank is that I hope whoever is on the receiving end of it doesn’t have sensitive ears or a heart condition. The noise on those things!

4. Don’t let ’em bite

I didn’t even know that you could get plastic bed bugs, but apparently you can – and this guy bought thousands of them. Choose your roommates carefully, kids…

5. Pure evil

This guy got into the spirit of Halloween by hiding onions in his homemade toffee ‘apples’. At least he got the ‘evil’ part down!

6. A thing of beauty

Some of the pranks that these college kids pull take an incredible amount of effort – effort that’s not getting put into their studies. I could imagine this thing in a modern art museum.

7. Hot diggity dawg

This guy’s roommate told him that he had an irrational fear of wieners, and this is the end result. I think the lesson here is never show your weaknesses to anyone you don’t trust.

8. Waddle of inconvenience

This is just downright sadistic. One of the many reasons that I carry a packet of tissues on me at all times.

9. Not getting any cleaner

Yup, they’ve decided to seal that soap in nail polish, for reasons known only to themselves. With friends like this, who needs enemies?

10. Mismatching

Have fun trying to decipher this one next time you’re writing an email. I can tell that a lot of effort went into this prank. Personally, I’d just present them with a bill for a new keyboard.

11. Read all about it

Sometimes you want to prank you roommate, but just can’t be bothered to put in any kind of creativity or ingenuity, so balling up old newspapers will do, I guess. I’ll give them an A for effort though – that is a LOT of newspaper.

12. Spidey senses tingling

This person’s roommate was a pretty severe arachnophobe, so obviously they decided to give them the fright of their lives. I can only imagine the noises that came out of their roommate’s mouth when they turned this lamp on.

13. This is entirely too much prank

If my roommate did this to me, they’d be out on their butt. Right after I’d set fire to the toilet and scrubbed my eyes out with bleach.

14. Forever in our hearts

This is kinda twisted, but also plain hilarious. This will take a lot of explaining to his date…

15. Smellidelphia

This one speaks for itself. 10/10 for idea AND execution.

16. Despite all my rage, I am still just Nicolas Cage

This roommate has truly excelled, with a beautiful shower curtain that will appear in literally any movie you ask it to.

17. Preciousssss

Okay, it’s very obvious that this is a cutout of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings movies. But try telling yourself that when you’ve never seen it before, and you turn your lights on at 4am.

18. Milk money

This is not so much a prank as it is extreme passive-aggressiveness, but I felt the need to include it. A big fat NOPE to living with this person!

19. The bear necessities

So, this guy’s roommate thought this would be a funny prank to play on him, but little did he know…

He was totally into it. This might be the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen.

20. Last but not least

Another high-effort prank here. Some of these are great!

There’s always that one switch that no one has any idea what it does…

You know it’s a good prank when you have to buy a laminator to pull it off.
