20 Crazy Movie References Hidden In Disney Films

You would never think that movies such as The Shining and Die Hard have any connection to your favourite Disney films but, surprisingly, they do! Some of these may be intentional while some may not but the connections seem a little too obvious to just be a coincidence…

You will never look at these Disney classics in the same way after seeing these crazy connections to popular movies. Remember folks, everything is connected…

1.) Same carpet in Toy Story and The Shining

Pixar, Warner Bros.

Pixar, Warner Bros.

Sid’s carpet in Toy Story has the EXACT same pattern as the carpet used in the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. They’ve basically just inverted the colours but other than that, it’s definitely the same. Considering Sid is a naughty kid and seems to like creepy stuff, I can’t help but think this was an intentional connection…

2.) Cop scene in The Incredibles and Die Hard with a Vengeance

There’s a scene in The Incredibles where the cop catches Mr Incredible and Frozone in the jewelry shop. The scene references the exact scene where Zeus Carver is held up by police in Die Hard with a Vengeance. I would have NEVER linked Die Hard and The Incredibles together but there you go…it’s a small world!

3.) The “pec pop of love” features in Moana and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Maui in Moana is voiced by Dwayne Johnson does the Rock’s famous “pec pop of love” just like he did in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island! He really does love that move…

4.) In Hercules they do the same training montage poses as in The Karate Kid

Disney, Columbia Pictures

In Hercules, you can see the gang doing the training montage strike the same pose that Mr. Miyagi does on the beach in The Karate Kid. I love this reference and it’s so awesome to see the influence movies like The Karate Kid have!

5.) Mushu in Mulan and Rambo in Rambo III respond the same

In Mulan, the men in the fireworks tower ask Mushu who he is, he responds in the EXACT same way that Rambo does in Rambo III. This is pretty cool but I would never link these films together!

6.) Toy Story 2 and Jurassic Park have the EXACT same scene

When the T-Rex chases after the car in Jurassic Park the Toy Story 2 scene is identical, the same writing on the window too!

Paradise Falls in the magical world of Up looks exactly the same as the fictional landscape in The Lost World, a 1925 movie. Looks like they must have taken some inspiration from it!

Disney, Paramount Pictures

Disney, Paramount Pictures

The mannerisms of the adorable Mr. Big in Zootopia are the exact same as that of the world-famous Vito Corleone in The Godfather. This is definitely intentional and I’m loving it!

9.) Monster’s, Inc. mimics a scene in The Right Stuff

The iconic shot of the monsters in Monsters Inc. coming out onto the scare floor looks very similar to a scene in The Right Stuff. Could this be intentional? I’m on the fence about this one…

10.) Woody and Ethan Hunt

Pixar, Paramount Pictures

Pixar, Paramount Pictures

It appears as though Woody is drawing inspiration from Ethan Hunt in Misson Impossible with he escape from Sunnyside in Toy Story 3. I’m not surprised, haven’t we all wanted to look that cool at some point in our lives?!

11.) Tangled and Indiana Jones – grabbing things last minute

Flynn Rider grabs Rapunzel’s frying pan as a stone door is shutting just as Indiana Jones grabs his hat in the Temple of Doom. Hat, frying pain same thing, right?!

12.) Wreck-it-Ralph quoting Batman

Disney, Warner Bros

King Candy in Wreck-it-Ralph directly quotes the Joker from Batman. Unfortunately, this line didn’t help them much and both characters got beat up in the end.

13.) The Shining strikes again

In Coco the director Lee Unkrich includes a direct nod to The Shining and “redrum”. He placed an axe in a tree stump next to a “red drum”. I see what he did there!

Pixar, MGM

Pixar, MGM

The design of Auto in Wall-E was directly taken from Hal 9000, a character from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. A classic inspiring another classic, what a great thing to see!

15.) Finding Nemo spoofed The Shining

Pixar, Warner Bros

The Shining really has inspired a lot of Disney movies, who would’ve thought it?! Finding Nemo spoofed the “Here’s Johnny” scene from The Shining with Bruce the shark.

The Duke of Weselton’s dance in Frozen does the exact same dance as Lindsay Bluth does to imitate a chicken in Arrested Development. Slightly weird reference but okay…

In the Zootopia night howler scene it directly spoofs Breaking Bad, even naming the two characters Woolter and Jesse, after the Breaking Bad main characters. I love this connection, Breaking Bad is the best thing ever!

18.) Toy Story and The Exorcist

You wouldn’t think that Toy Story and The Exorcist would have much in common but apparently, they do! When Woody’s head spun all the way around, it was exactly the same as The Exorcist! That makes it slightly more sinister…

19.) Shrek 2 and The Lord of The Rings

As the ring flies through the air in Shrek 2, Fiona dramatically catches it on her finger in the exact same way Frodo does in The Lord of The Rings.

20.) Toy Story and Raiders of the Lost Ark

Toy Story seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from a variety of very different movies! It’s great to see how movies like this are still inspiring kids’ movies to this day.

I don’t know about you but I’m never going to look at these movies in the same way ever again! I have been blind to so many obvious references for so long…
