Radio Host Dad Under Fire For Tweets Mocking His Son’s Robotics Competition
A part of being a good parent is helping your child to pursue their interests and leisure activities, even though it might mean getting up at the crack of dawn to drive to God-Knows-Where for God-Knows-What.
Conservative radio host Jesse Kelly of The Jesse Kelly Show on KPRC-AM 950 in Houston, was held under fire over the weekend for a series of tweets in which he trolled his own son for his participation in the Lego robotics tournament – a competition for kids to program autonomous robots to complete tasks.
You might think that this was a great event for your kid to take part in – it’s harmless fun with a little friendly competition thrown in. It’s also really clever. What’s not to like?!
Well, Jesse didn’t see it the same way, and while his son competed, he posted a series of tweets that mocked the competition. He even implied that he was embarrassed that his kid was taking part in it at all.
He went on to describe the tournament in detail, with a mocking tone all along. Personally I think it sounds great!
He also posted pictures of what was happening at the event, and it all looks way too complex for me to begin to attempt. These kids are smart.
Which begs the question why Papa Douchebag over here couldn’t express a little pride in his son.
Of course, he soon changed his tune when his son won an award, which, of course, he took credit for:
Jesse Kelly has quite a big presence on Twitter, so it’s no wonder that so many people saw his series of tweets. Predictably, most of them were outraged by what they had seen, and made sure that he knew about it:
This is a great point. I mean, how many 10 year-olds can build a frickin’ robot?!
Others reminded him what being a parent should be all about:
Given that he had taken the trouble to drive his kid to this event and stay there all day with him, you wonder why Jesse couldn’t be supportive instead of unnecessarily mocking his son and his interests. But still, Jesse doesn’t think there’s a problem with the tweets:
What do you think of Jesse’s tweets, folks? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
