Airbnb Are Offering The Chance Live In Rural Italy And Make Pasta – And Get Paid For It!
If I were to ask you if you wanted to go and live in rural Italy for 3 months, eating the world’s best food and generally living La Dolce Vita, I assume your answer would be a big fat ‘Si!’
Now, what if I told you that you could actually get paid for doing exactly that? Too good to be true, right?
Well, it turns out that this is an opportunity that actually exists. Airbnb want to send someone to an Italian village, teach them how to make pasta and help in the local community, all expenses paid.
It’s called ‘The Italian Sabbatical’, and the lucky winner will be based in the village of Grottole, in the south of the country, while you learn a new way of life.
The statement on the Airbnb website reads:
“Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and become a temporary citizen of a village in the south of Italy. Immerse yourself in the local culture and discover how to speak, act and cook the Italian way.
You will also get to support the local community by hosting an Airbnb Experience. Your goal? To help the local community revitalize the small village of Grottole.”
The company is looking for four people to head to Grottole for three months, immersing themselves in the culture in the process.
The candidates will become temporary citizens of the village, while also volunteering for a local, non-profit organisation called ‘Wonder Grottole’, which aims to revitalize the town’s historical center.
So it’s not exactly a free lunch – you will have to do some work while you’re there – but through this hands-on approach, you can experience Italy like no casual tourist ever could.
Watch the explanatory video below, which shows some of the town’s beautiful scenery:
Grottole is only a small village, with only around 300 residents and more than 600 empty homes. It is at risk of disappearing for good, which is why Airbnb and Wonder Grottole are looking for willing participants to inject some new life into the place. It would be such a shame for this beautiful place to become a ghost town!
You’ll learn how to make fresh pasta, grow local produce, become an expert beekeeper and help restore the village’s historic center – which dates back to the tenth century.
Applications must be made before midnight on February 17, 2019, so if you’re interested apply here.
